Spark plugs used for racing mustwithstand especially hard stresses. The speeds during a race are frequentlyin excess of 10 000 rpm. Temperature pressure and vibrations in thecombustion chamber are so immense that conventional ground electrodes couldbreak or melt. For this reason racing spark plugs often come withspecially designed ground electrodes the most extreme form with aring-shaped ground electrode. The spark jumps from the middle electrode tothe ring-shaped groundelectrode.
