Spark plugs used for racingmust withstand especially hard stresses. The speeds during a race arefrequently in excess of 10 000 rpm. Temperature pressure and vibrationsin the combustion chamber are so immense that conventional groundelectrodes could break or melt. For this reason racing spark plugs oftencome with specially designed ground electrodes the most extreme form witha ring-shaped ground electrode. The spark jumps from the middle electrodeto the ring-shaped groundelectrode.
